Sat 26 Septemeber

Sat I woke up at 5am to go to work at 6am. Today was the students experience day so they were there when I arrived. I started helping Luis again with the pigs and cleaning and feeding them when an ambulance came cursing down the road. It went past the Lecheria down to the field where the students were cutting Pasto. About 10min Later a student came up and told us that a boy from Ecuador was cutting Pasto when he wasn’t careful and cut right into his boot. The machete went right into his foot and that’s why they called the ambulance. After that I got a phone call from David telling me that he needed my help in the Tilapia fish farm. So I left the Lecheria and went to help him. The fish farm was about a block away from my house. This was a pleasant surprise because then I didn’t need to bike a long way to get home. When I arrived, there was a big small loading truck and people putting big plastic bags of fish into the truck. David greeted me and then explained what needed to be done. This was his student project for this year. He had to raise Tilapia and then sell them to get money for the project. A buyer had bought 40 plastic bags worth of fish that needed to be packaged and put in the truck. The other students working on this project were in the fish pool using fishing nets to catch the fish, and then give them to David to put in the bags. First I helped him get the fish in the bag, then fill the bag with air with a machine, then tie the bag with a big rubber band so the water and air wouldn’t escape. After an hour or two, I got into the pool with the students and helped them get the fish. The net covered the width of the pool and we started walking from one end to the other to catch all of the fish. It was hard because the fish knew what was going on, so they were doing everything they could to get free. They would try to jump over the net, swim under and get caught in the net, and wedge their way through any opening they could find. After a couple of hours of hard work, we were done. When I got home, Wendy was making Gino Pinto with coconut milk. It was delicious and I had a second helping later on that day. Then that night my friends and I went to the two bars in town celebrate our birthdays. We danced all night and it was super fun!!!
